Spring is finally here. Longer evenings, warmer days, lots of green in bloom….total bliss. The warm weather means the ground grows softer in preparation for yielding plants and there is more rainfall to water and nourish the seedlings as they grow. In the same fashion, animals are starting to slowly come out of hibernation, prepare to give birth or to return home after migrating for the winter. It’s a time for festivals and gatherings, celebrating fertility, growth and new beginnings. So Spring is the time for transformation for the mind, body and soul. It’s quite a mouthful but the organic total body reboot is our version of a spring clean. With the cold weather out of the way, your body is ready to transform, to shed the layers and get moving. Accordingly, it’s time to feel like a plant powered goddess! As Nature intended.

Just to clarify, this isn’t a diet. Rather, the goal is to highlight the simplicity in listening to nature’s little signals. Taking note of these messages, you can truly nourish your body seasonally. The power of nature is truly magical and rather than provide you with meal plans, this article aims to highlight some hints that are worth paying attention to right now.

Organic Total Body Reboot Step 1: Become Plant Powered Goddess

There is raw power in plant based food which our bodies thrive on. Most noteworthy, these green gems absorb energy from the sun and harness it into chemical energy which we humans can then use when we eat the stems, leaves and roots. To maximise your organic total body reboot, challenge yourself to eat a variety of these plant-based foods every day.

To make it a bit more structured, you really can’t get enough vegetables in your diet. So set a goal to choose three vegetables from the seasonal list below to experiment with at each main meal. From there, add in a variety of fruit and then finally legumes, grains and starches. You can check out our blog on how to activate nuts, seeds, legumes and grains to maximise nutrition. This should for the first layer of your main meals. In addition to the above, you can add protein and good fats to balance the whole plate.

A note on ‘organic’

With farming practices focusing first and foremost on maximising output, the nutrient profile of these grains and plants takes a back seat i.e. it’s far more important to produce a higher quantity of tomatoes that a smaller quantity with a richer nutritional profile. Because of this, it is important to choose organic products whenever possible. If your budget doesn’t stretch to buy only organic, you can still benefit from buying local British produce, going to your nearest markets or looking at the the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen list provided by the Environmental Working Group. Organic Total Body Reboot Step 2: Eat Seasonally

Why should you care to eat seasonally? First of all, it makes economic sense because locally grown seasonal food is cheaper to both grow and transport. Second, there is immense nutritional benefit from following a season diet. Above all, plant-based foods start to slowly lose their nutrient content once picked. Therefore local produce contains a richer nutrient and mineral profile for your benefit since it has a shorter distance to travel. 

Not only that, but following Nature’s recommendations benefits the body in the best way possible as it encourages you to eat a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables and also to take in the nutrients that you need most for the season at hand. For example, Spring favourites like peas provide a great source of plant protein, B vitamins, zinc and vitamin C all of which promotes energy production.

Start with ‘Mantras’.

In Hindi, mantra simply means ‘word’ and consequently, the idea is that the simple repetition of certain words or statements can help focus your mind, quiet anxiety and create a more positive state of being. Because meditation is a journey from within, the choice of words is completely up to you. Take notice of quotes and words you see around you especially on social media, in books, cards etc. The ones that you feel connected to, those words that help you find meaning and alter your mood, are the ones right for you to use as mantras.

Try It: Find a quiet room or play some gentle music and try it. Then, close your eyes and repeat your mantra as a whisper to increase the energy felt from your chosen mantra.
